If specially crafted cocktails and delicious food are your thing, then you need to get to Southampton Harbour Hotel's HarBar on 6th as they've just introduced a tantalising new menu. Over the next few months, you can enjoy a selection of warming dishes, and sip on delicious cocktails beneath a beautiful canopy of petals in a burst of white, cream and green.
The beautiful rooftop destination bar, kitchen and club features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Solent complete with a terrace with outdoor fire pits making it the perfect location for drinks with friends or lunch with family.
We scored big time with the weather - a gorgeously sunny January day with clear blue skies and views for miles. HarBar on 6th is such an excellent spot if you want to see more of Southampton, the views really are unbeatable.
Upon our arrival, the four of us were seated in the restaurant and were served by Ana during our visit. Ana was attentive, and friendly and checked in with us throughout our meal, the attention to detail really did make our visit.
The menu comprises a selection of nibbles and starters - we enjoyed warm sourdough with sea salt, olive oil and balsamic alongside olives followed by starters of Beef Fillet, Pickled Shiitake Mushrooms, Rocket and Egg Yolk Jam and Laverstoke Mozzarella, Artichokes, Pistachios and Saffron Honey.
Each dish was perfectly presented and most importantly, tasted delicious.
Our main meals are what stole the show, so much so that we're still talking about the Pork Cheeks, Garlic Mash and Tenderstem with Apple & Shallot sauce! Succulently rich with the creamiest mash I've ever tried, the Pork Cheeks were just bursting full of flavour - it was my friend's dish so I didn't get to experience the full plate but it is what I would order next time.
I ate the Salmon Fillet & Beetroot Gnocchi with Dill Crème Fraîche which while yummy, turns out I don't enjoy beetroot that much - is there anything worse than order regret?
We snuck in some truffle fries on the side too - we always order them when we eat at HarBar on 6th!
The cocktails are exceptionally good at HarBar on 6th - each one is expertly curated by the in-house mixologists to give you a taste sensation you wouldn't have tried anywhere else. We tried cocktails such as Into The Blue made with Mermaid Salt Vodka, Seaweed Vermouth and Basil Essence and popular mocktails Blood Orange Sgroppino made with Midnight Sun Aperitif, Wild Idol Alcoholic free Rose Sparkling Wine and Blood Orange Sorbet and Coconut Espresso Martini created using Lyre's Coffee Liquor, Coconut Essence and Espresso Coffee.
Each is tantalisingly different to the other and an experience from start to finish.
The cocktail menu does change regularly with some classics staying throughout the year.
After our meal, Aaron and Lukas found us a spot outside in the sunshine beneath the heaters (it was still January after all) to enjoy our afternoon with a bottle of prosecco - we ended up staying for hours catching up and watching the sun go down. We had the best spot in the house to do so after all.
We had such an enjoyable afternoon, I didn't want it to end and I can't wait to go back again. It's becoming one of my favourite places to visit at the moment and any menu that comes with a side of Mermaid Gin gets my vote.
