Typology burst onto the scene in 2020 and well and truly made its mark on me. They're the ideal starting point for anyone that wants a more effective and targeted skincare routine while still being exceptionally conscious of the world around you too.
Created by Ning Li, the founder of MADE.com, Typology is completely clean, genderless and 100% digital. The Paris-based skincare brand was founded with a mission to promote critical thinking in the personal care arena, intending to break the rules and demystify the complex industry. It's completely stripped back to basics in terms of ingredients and packaging allowing them to design and produce concentrated, natural products that are active, effective and sustainable without a bit of faff in sight.
It's completely refreshing and I've been completely blown away.
Having tried a number of their products which you can view in my Introducing Typology Skincare post since they launched in the UK - I've since had another of their products to try out, Tinted Balms!
Housed in an aluminium tube made from 100% recycled aluminium with a recyclable polypropylene (PP) cap, the Typology Tinted balm (£14.90) is the perfect 'everyday' lip product to keep in your makeup bag. Each one is enriched with hyaluronic acid and raspberry seed extract making the multi-purpose balms perfect for lips and cheeks - the formula means it is comfortable during use and it adds a glorious amount of hydration to lips and skin during wear.
Made from 97% naturally-derived ingredients, the mineral oil free, silicone free and fragrance free products are a doddle to use. Warm the tube a little between palms and push the tube up and down with your fingertips to gently mix the product before applying a dab of balm to the fingertip and gently massaging onto lips or cheeks.
You can repeat throughout the day when needed too.
If you're an ingredient nerd like me then lemme give you a little more detail on what's in the formula. I'm an out and out Hyaluronic acid fan because it's great for injecting hydration into skin. The molecule is capable of holding 1000 times its weight in water so it helps to reduce the skin's natural dehydration and tightness, to give you more hydrated and smoother lips.
Next, raspberry seed extract is cold-pressed and rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin E, making it a powerful antioxidant that nourishes and protects the lips while leaving them soft and silky. Lastly, peppermint macerate helps to soothe and refresh adding a minty, fresh feeling and taste. Although do note that it is in no way over-powering and to be completely honest - I rarely notice it.
Shades:
Ruby Red - subtle red shine
Powder Pink - subtle pastel pink
Dusty Pink - gorgeous muted rose
Coral Orange - bright, dewy orange
Plum Purple - deep rich purple
I find the balms very subtle and flattering - I adore the natural finish. They're very sheer as you'd expect and although they don't last too long on the lips, I enjoy using them. The balm is creamy and super smooth so it applies really well and I find it quite buildable, I'd love to see some more shades in the future, like a mauve or brown shade.
The Typology Tinted Balms are available to order from their website now - what shade would you choose?
