Five Happy Things

The last year has taught us a lot - for us especially it was to value the small things, make memories where we can and make the most of family and friends. Happy moments don't have to be a huge, momentous thing, they can be just about anything be it a chocolate bar you treated yourself to or a long walk listening to an audiobook.

I've really been trying to do this myself recently and so in the spirit of just that I wanted to share five happy things that have really made all the difference for us as we started 2021.

The Sunshine
I don't think I've stopped talking about the sunshine for the last week but its reappearance after an awfully grey winter has made all the difference to my mind and soul this week. The weather really has an impact on my life especially if there's a pesky thunderstorm pressurising my migraines so waking to blue skies and sunshine this week has been wonderful. I'm hoping we're on the final stretch to Spring now because I need those warmer days in my life.

Vaccinations
I know the big talk at the moment is about the Covid vaccine but we had our son's preschool vaccinations this week and he aced them! I won't lie, I've been a major wimp and always taken either my mum or grandmother with me to all his previous ones but this time it was just me and he was so good. Thanks to an episode of Bing he was quite excited about going and with no tears or even a flinch he took it in his stride and came away with a certificate for bravery too.

Zoom Calls
I didn't think almost a year later I'd still be having Zoom calls with friends and family but here we are and boy am I thankful. It's been such a great way to keep in touch with people, watch friends children grow and still be connected to one another. We're really looking forward to this weekends calls with my parents and grandmother.

Books
My love of reading has well and truly carried me through lockdown and it has become the hobby that has been so worthwhile - Arran has been smashing out the reading lists too at the moment and it has been a great passion to share together. I'm currently reading Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson and it is just such a stunning book.

Hot Cross Buns
I told you, you can find joy in anything right now, and the Marks & Spencer Luxury Hot Cross buns are seeing me through. I don't think it's ever too soon for Easter food so I'll be filling up on hot cross buns and the odd creme egg for the next few weeks.

What things are making you smile at the moment?
