It's all very exciting for P&O Cruises at the moment and with their new ship, Iona launching the announcements are just going to keep coming. The new LNG-powered ship with 5,200-guest capacity will be the largest ship built to serve the UK market.
Iona will feature enhancements to their already successful brand signature venues from the existing fleet, as well as features newly developed for Iona. These include a breathtaking three-deck atrium in the heart of the ship as well as SkyDome – an exclusively designed glass dome by award-winning British engineers Eckersley O’Callaghan. This will be a world-first at sea and offer a unique space for both relaxing in all weathers and providing entertainment, featuring aerial performers and a wealth of live acts.
In January, P&O Cruises announced their new brand ambassador as Gary Below which will see a pioneering partnership set to fuse music with amazing travel experiences for guests onboard in 2020. As a producer, musician, songwriter and member of the legendary British pop group Take That. I was invited to the media event at St. Luke's London Symphony Orchestra where we were told first hand about the exciting partnership and experienced an intimate performance from the man himself.
Gary is one of the UK’s most successful musicians and during his impressive career, he has written 15 Number One singles, won six Ivor Novello Awards, eight BRIT awards, sold over 45 million records worldwide and over eight million concert tickets.
Aside from his achievements with Take That, he has also co-written and produced music for other renowned artists including Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Elton John and Robbie Williams. Gary has also turned his attention to the world of theatre, composing the score for the hugely successful ‘Finding Neverland’ and working alongside screenwriter Tim Firth to write the music and lyrics for musical ’The Girls’ and also more recently working alongside his bandmates Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Robbie Williams to produce ‘The Band’ a record-breaking musical featuring the music of Take That.
