We are so spoilt for choice when it comes to food in Southampton and now we have some new eats opening up over the water! Vospers opened in Centenary Quay, Woolston last month serving up delicious burgers, tantalising cocktails and a range of beer so a group of us went down to see what it was all about.
You are always guaranteed a smile when walking into Vospers thanks to the oh so friendly staff and that is exactly what Southampton Bloggers received for our Cocktail Masterclass session. We spent the evening learning about the history of the site, the name and how to make some delicious looking cocktails before munching on some darn good beef.
I obviously refrained from the cocktail making but it was fun watching everyone else become the ultimate cocktail mastermind, plus I was able to take photos without fear of a hangover. Result! Roger did such a fab job talking everyone through the cocktails two at a time as it gave everyone a chance to make something different. While everyone got to work making The Last Word, a gin based creation, I stuck to the menu.
Each of the burgers are named with Vosper Thornycroft in mind which is the site on which the restaurant is built and where the name comes from. Over 600 ships were built in Victoria Road and there are numerous photos and memories displayed around the restaurant to look at too. I ordered the 1966, a 6oz Beef burger, Maple cured bacon, oak smoked cheese, beer soaked onions, smokey bbq ketchup with a side of fries. It was absolutely delicious even if I did have to have it cooked well-done due to the baby. I can't wait to go back and try another burger with a bit more juice and some chorizo!
There was such a good atmosphere for the evening and the service was incredible too, just what we all needed after a day at work! Vospers is open Wednesday through to Sunday from midday so it's perfect for a quick bite to eat or for an evening with friends. I already can't wait to go back!
