With just eight days to go until Halloween and everything frightful I thought I'd share what I've been doing with my pumpkins this year. As you may have seen, I went to a pumpkin patch with friends recently to pick up various sized pumpkins to paint after seeing some beautifully designed ones on Pinterest. I'm so happy with the results and that they're not an absolute fail that I'm showing you exactly what to use so you can have a go yourself at home.
You will need -
Various sized pumpkins of your choice
Newspaper/cupboard box to protect your work station
Paint brush
Paint (I used acrylic, emulsion & metallic)
Chalk pen
As I said previously, I bought all my pumpkins from a local farm shop and I was able to pick them all myself too, who knew Pumpkins had spikes because I bloody didn't?! After getting them home and giving them a good clean as they were covered in roots, mud and a worm, I laid them out to dry on a towel overnight. The following morning I headed into the city centre to buy my paint before rushing home with a coffee in hand and got to work.
I gave each pumpkin a couple of coats of paint then left them to dry as I stupidly only bought one paint brush. I then repeated this over the next few days until I was happy with the paint coverage. I had a chalk pen from our engagement party decorations so I already had in my mind that I would use that to write on the largest pumpkin, I just needed to decide what to do with the rest.
I left the smaller pumpkins that I had painted with metallic paint as they were while trying the dripping effect on the smaller, sage painted pumpkin. It didn't work as best as I could've done but for a first go I was happy. I just grabbed the paint brush with the other pumpkins and did whatever took my fancy, polka dots and stripes. Not very daring but it gives the look I wanted.
This is definitely something I'm going to do again in the future and I'm going to try and be more creative next year but I am so happy with the outcome and have already displayed them around the house much to Arran's annoyance.
What do you think of my pumpkins? Have you tried similar before?
