We're pretty lucky in Southampton to have so many great places to go for food, 7 Bone is located in Portswood, Southampton and is THE burger joint you have to try this year, whether you're local or not, it's worth the travel. There is also another branch in Bournemouth so either way you have to make a trip down to the South Coast to enjoy the aged patty goodness.
We went with friends on a busy Saturday night for an evening full of laughter and good food. We arrived around 6.30ish to a packed out restaurant, served by the lovely Lucia, we left our number so they could give us a ring when the table for four was ready. 7 Bone is incredibly popular so it's location, surrounded by many bars and pubs is ideal for when there's a slight wait for a table. We headed across the road for a quick drink and was back in 7 Bone half hour later ready to order our food.
On the advice of my friends I went with the ever so popular Prince Charles is Overrated burger, doubling up the patty of med-rare aged beef. The patty is teamed with bacon, cheese, shredded iceberg lettuce, pickles and their incredible special recipe dirty spread served in a soft, brioche bun. The portions are generous so I shared the Dirty Fries which are smothered in dirty spread, lettuce and bacon pieces with the boyfriend while he tucked into a Peter Green patty made with American mustard, chillis and jalapenos.
When the burger arrived I was a little unsure how to conquer it but armed with a few pieces of kitchen roll I just got stuck in. 7 Bone is a messy business but 100% worth it. Probably not first date material unless dirty spread dribbling down your dates chin is your thing. I won't judge.
If the food doesn't completely satisfy your palate then the drinks menu should. With local craft beers, soft drinks, shakes and floats plus a pretty delicious cocktail menu, there is something for everyone. I had such a fab evening at 7 Bone, the food was out of this world, the atmosphere was buzzing and Lucia was absolutely wonderful, I haven't had such attentive service in so long and I'd go back for that reason alone. After settling up the bill, the rest of my Saturday night was spent in a food coma. Exactly how I like to spend my weekends.
If you have any burger recommendations then let me know! Especially if they're South Coast based, I'm not sure any can beat 7 Bone.
